Recently, our engineers conducted a 4-day installation training on the HONO-2000 nitrite analyzer at the Future City campus of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). The photolysis products of nitrite (HONO) are one of the sources of OH free radicals in the atmosphere, and also play an important role in the polar nitrogen cycle. As an important indoor pollutant, nitrite is a carcinogen.
The HONO-2000 analyzer is measured by wet chemistry. The basic principle is to use the absorption liquid, using the diffusion between the gas and liquid, the HONO in the sampled gas is converted to nitrite (NO2-), and then the dual-channel long-path absorption spectrometry is used to measure. Compared with other similar analyzers, HONO-2000 has the following characteristics: It uses ultra-pure water instead of strong acid solvent as the absorption liquid; It can automatically remove bubbles and avoid complicated bubble adjustment. The measurement concentration can be output in real time without the need for later data processing.
At present, formaldehyde and gaseous nitrite have been included in the scope of automatic monitoring of urban PAMS. According to document No. 335 of the Monitoring letter [2020] of the Environmental Affairs Office, the construction of relevant projects can be carried out in cities where conditions exist. The monitoring of gaseous nitrite can provide a basis for the government to formulate reasonable ozone pollution control measures. When the concentration of HONO is high, timely emission reduction of VOCs-related industries such as chemical industry, petrochemical industry, and surface coating industry is carried out to reduce the generation of O3 in photochemical reactions, thereby reducing ozone concentration.
